This writing is called a Papal encyclical. A Papal encyclical, is a letter, usually treating some aspect of Catholic doctrine, sent by the Pope. Papal encyclicals usually take the form of a Papal brief due to their more personal nature as opposed to the formal Papal bull. Papal encyclicals are so famous that the term encyclical is used almost exclusively for those sent out by the Pope. The title of the encyclical is usually taken from its first few words.
The title of the encyclical is The Light of Faith and Pope Francis seeks to teach us about the life of Jesus, who is the light of the world.
This was a good read, which can be used as a devotional as well.
I received this book for free through the Blogging for Books program, in exchange for an honest review.
